DIY DJ Record/Play Controller
(To replace Keyboard control channel 2)
This control box duplicates the function of using a keyboard on MIDI Channel 2 to control recording / Playing of up to 10 Slices and changing the Pitch of the samples. This unit betters this by providing a knob to control the level, then the EQ of the bass (-100%) and the treble (+50%) once past the halfway point. Also improved is the Pitch control knob which can act as a semitone pitch selector +/- 12 notes like the keyboard control, or select from a set of scales. It can also be a +/-2 semitone or full octave Pitch Bend. The Record & Play buttons acts as keyboard keys, but with the added benefit of LED's displaying in blue which ones have been recorded to, and approximating the playback time with green.

The bottom of the box pictured above has a USB-B jack for charging. I was originally going to attach a CH345 MIDI device chip to it so it could be controlled directly from a computer, but I have many USB MIDI's already, no need for more! My unit has a full size MIDI plug on the 3D printed box to be tough to carry around the studio. If used with a wireless MIDI it would be truly portable, but I question the latency of these wireless dongles. If they are bluetooth there will be a delay which could be a problem if timing is important (which it is!!) You may choose to use different buttons, box or layout. Here's a zip with all pertinent info on the project including the .ino and the .stl 3D printer files. Read the "notes.txt" for more project info. See the video at:
